There’s nothing wrong with working as a waiter or waitress etc. But speaking from experience growing up in a family where I was the first one to graduate high school and college, college has opened up more doors for me than it has for my parents. The only jobs my mom has been able to get are minimum wage jobs that don’t offer many benefits, and she has little job security. Hours vary greatly, too. The same goes for all my friends who dropped out of high school. The cost of living is getting higher, and these jobs aren’t enough to make it through.
If you drop out of high school and have a family business to get into, that’s awesome. I still think you would need the skills (math, English, etc.) you learn in school to help you run it successfully. But if you’re dropping out without some type of a back up plan, I think that’s going to make it a lot harder to get through life.
I’m confused. What do you mean by families being torn apart if education is resisted? You mentioned that if you do not attend school when legally required to you’re taken away from your family. I’ve never heard or seen that, at least where I live.
